Mr Marley, or, An Underdone Potato

An Underdone Potato, by Ethan Black
24x36 acrylic on canvas

The Halloween season is behind us and we are entering the icy realm of winter and as Yule nears I am in the mood for ghosts. My friends and I love a good ghost story and Jacob Marley is my favorite ghost of all. I have been very ill over the past few days (E coli) and am just now, mostly recovered. This is a strong return to productivity, I hope it continues.

Slaughterhouse Haunted Attraction 2018

October 31st 2018

I dressed up a few times this year. Once for Monsters and Merriment, a few times for SlaughterHouse Haunted attraction, for a Halloween party, and for Halloween itself.
Boris Karloff as Ardith Bey, Halloween costume 2018

Dr Frankenstein for Monsters and Merriment

A full month with all kinds of Halloween and horror, still I crave more.

Halloween 2018

I wasn't home Halloween Night, it was kind of dead anyway. Wednesday night and threats of rain. I spent the evening watching horror films with friends. Next year I will amp it up a bit, I hope.

The Veil is Lifted

The Veil is Lifted, By Ethan Black
I painted this 24x36 acrylic on canvas on Halloween, I worked from early in the morning on into lunch.

How Was Your Halloween?

We had a ton of fun here. I am exhausted and need to refuel. I hope your October was one to remember.

Witch

Illustration I came up with randomly in the middle of the night. The muse loves to come see me just as I try to go to bed. lol

Halloween

I got to live out a childhood dream of being Micheal Myers for a haunted attraction last weekend. It was hot and uncomfortable, but I scared the living hell out of some folks and was laughing hard under my mask.

Spirit of October

My latest painting has already sold and will soon ship. I am very pleased about it.

My Monster

In honor of the 200th anniversary of Frankenstein, I have created a monster of my own. I used what parts I could find and with a deadline hot on my heels I assembled him in a mad rush.

Evil Mind

Being twisted and very fond of Frankenstein and all kinds of other mad science horror, I have crafted a new beast for this years greatest holiday.

Meet Gustav, my evil brain monster!
He lives in a really big jar that glows with eerie green lights.

His smile is a tad on the creepy side.

The light does not help.
Hope you enjoyed him. Happy Haunting my fiends. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Monster Decor

Thanks to Southern Living and The Martha Stewart Show, my plant monsters, this one in particular, is my most famous work. Itis downloaded off of Pinterest at least twice a day. I think I have created better monsters, but what do I know.

Mystic Vapors

I am working on some intro footage for a project and have been experimenting. I am getting some fun results. I am also working with fire and mandalas.

Memento Mori

Memento Mori, by Ethan Black

I created this for print and for shirts. I hope to also create a series of tarot cards if I can get backing for it. I will also be turning this into a three part series that will include a witch and a burning scarecrow. They will be the October trinity.

Mad Creator

This is only a fragment of a larger art project I am building. Frankenstein is 200 years old this year and I feel the need to commemorate it.

Nature's Fury

Nature's Fury, by Ethan Black

This mask was created with the idea that it represents nature's fury at our transgressions against it. It is a creature/god that punishes humanity.

Krampus Mask

Krampus Mask, by Ethan Black

I still need to add fur, but otherwise, my new Krampus mask is done. I think I may create a full costume and keep this one.

Necromancy and After Effects

I teach visual effects and in our 101 class we are playing with green screen and particle systems. My Halloween flair always shows when this subject comes up.

Halloween III: The Old Witch

Part one in a three part series, more to come. The Jack O Lantern mask is almost done. Stay tuned!
"Yes kids, you too can own one of the big Halloween three. That's right, THREE horrific masks to chose from. They're fun, they're frightening, and they GLOW in the dark."

MerAngler

MerAngler came to me when one of my students asked me to draw a mermaid. I always put a dark spin on anything I draw. The face coming out of her tail is her mate. Female angler fish absorb their mate into themselves when they mate.

This sticker design is not close to ready for print, but I love Mr. Barlow and I wanted to share my progress. He should be done soon. I hope you enjoy him, and I am sure he will enjoy you as well. MWAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!

Punkenstein Progress

Working on another sticker. (and trying to put a store together) This one isn't ripe yet, but it is close and I want to share it. I hope you enjoy it.

The Nucklavee

This creature is evidence of evil fairies. He is a toxic monster that roams the roads at night assaulting travelers and damaging crops and farm animals. He comes from the sea, but fresh water seems to be a turn off for him. He is able to change his form and for some inexplicable reason he chooses this of a twisted horse and rider freak thing. Probably to make you fill your shorts. What a creep.

Abraxas

Abraxas is a strange looking demon with a very eclectic past. Many sources disagree on some major points and I felt like I was chasing my tail trying to get them straight. If you are interested in trying, good luck. Here is the Wiki page

A New Year

I hope everyone's year is off to a  good start. I have some stuff for you and some big plans this year. Lets get started, shall we? I have been very disorganized and there are many things I have made that I have failed to share with you. Sorry, my bad. First of all, this is my animated logo, that I plan, one day, to use while making videos for your enjoyment. I need some equipment to accomplish this, but we will get there.

Next, we have my green screen project from my days teaching film and animation at IADT of Nashville. Spooky fun stuff!

And last of all, we have an animatic storyboard I created for a client who never  followed through on his end of the agreement. Shocking, I know.
